Frogmore

Junior School

Games Club

New to Frogmore this year is the Frogmore Strategy Games Club.

Children from years 5 and 6 can come on a Thursday night to learn to play a strategy game with their friends. They'll need to be able to learn from their mistakes, have the patience to see their plans come to fruition and show respect to their opponent whether they win or lose.

Expectations and agreement between the club and it's members

We do insist that the children DO NOT need to purchase their own gaming supplies as of yet as they are only just learning about the game. Nearer to Christmas, if the children want to and their parents permit it, they may start to collect their own selection of models to bring to the club and game with. Please do NOT feel that, even at this time, members of the club need to have their own models.

However, as Mr Clarke is having to supply all the models and gaming resources, if any child breaks any resource, whether intentionally or through poor behaviour choices, the club will need to be reimbursed in order to resupply the resource. So far, all club members have been extremely respectful and careful and so there is no cause for concern.

Key Info

The club does run until 16:30 so members will be allowed to bring a bottled drink and a dry snack if their parents permit them to.

Next week there will be a slight change and the club will run on Wednesday the 12th of October. This will be only for next week and then the club will resume as usual on the following Thursday, October 20th.

Weekly run down

We are starting off this half-term with a general's boot camp, learning the basic rules with small armies and practising our skills.

29/09/16 - The first competition was a simple contest to see who could score the most points by taking out their opponents soldiers.

06/10/16 - Our second challenge was a capture the flag scenario where each general had to think of how to capture the objective whilst preventing their adversary from doing the same. The players rose to the challenge and each set about achieving the task with their own unique strategies. These were some very close games that went right down to the wire and the games got quite intense, as the pictures will attest to!

20/10/16 - This week our budding generals were set a desperate mission to survive against an ambushing force. The children demonstrated a varied approach to their battlefield tactics and there were victories on both sides of the conflict. The boys have been practising more of the basic battle rules as well as some rules for special equipment. After the half-term break we will be focusing more on teamwork and how well two generals can work together to complete their objective.
