(match organisation)
Each month all schools within the league will have a match except December.
It is the Home Teams duty to contact the opposing school to arrange a date for any match.
It will also be the duty of the home team to e-mail or TEXT in the result of the match to Andi Price at Frogmore Juniors as soon as the match is completed (andi_price@hotmail.com or 07931517428). It would be greatly appreciated if matches could be completed during the month as this will keep the league running smoothly.
The home team should provide a 30m x 40m pitch (this can be marked out with cones alone but it would be better to have a painted pitch with cones), if this is not possible the match can be switched to the away teams pitch with prior notice.
If it is not at all possible to play the match during the month prescribed please could you inform Andi at Frogmore .
ALL matches must be completed before 2 APRIL 2009, as finals will be at FROGMORE JUNIORS where 1st in the North East League will play 1st in the South East League and 2nd will play 2nd and so on, there will also be the end of season presentation.
Matches
It will be the home teams duty to nominate or provide a referee (if the away team are willing to provide a ref, this is fine). I (Andi) am willing to Ref matches but you will have to contact me in advance so that I can check the school diary.
The matches will be played by the rules on this website.
Match durations will be decided by both team managers (It is usual to play 10 minutes each way)
Teams must consist of eight players (three girls on the pitch at all times). If teams are having problems with this, they are allowed to phone in good time and discuss this with the opposing school.
Players can be from any junior age group.
Tag Rugby Rules
(Updated October 2007)
1. When playing all players must wear a tag belt, with two tags attached by velcro. The belt will be worn outside the clothing shirts must be tucked in. The tags will be positioned on either side of the hips and the teams will be defined by the colour of the tags.
2. The object of the game is to score a try by placing the ball in two hands with downward pressure behind the opponents goal line.
3. The Tag -
i Only the player with the ball can be tackled (tagged)
ii A Tag is the removal of one of the two tag ribbons, by a defender.
iii Ball carriers can dodge potential taggers but can not fend them off or shield their tags (two hands must be kept on the ball when going into a tackle) nor can players shield the tags with the ball. Players are not allowed to spin 360° to avoid a tackle.
iv - When a defender takes a tag they hold it above their head and shout Tag for all to hear (they must not attempt to snatch the ball). The Referee will shout to confirm the tackle has been made.
vi Players have 3 seconds or can take a maximum of 3 strides (if running) and to make a pass. A pass can be made in the act of stopping.
vii Once tagged, players may only take 1 stride before scoring.
viii - Once the tag has been made the defender must return the tag to the tackled player. The tag is not to be dropped on the floor, IF PLAYERS (Defenders) ARE CONTINUOUSLY DROPPING TAGS NEAR THEIR TRY LINE PREVENTING THE ATTACKING TEAM SCORING, A PENALTY TRY CAN BE AWARDED.
ix neither player can take further part in the game until the tag is returned and in place on the belt.
x There should be no tags on the floor at any time.
4. Offside
i Once a tag has been made all defenders must make an effort to get back on their side of the ball.
ii Players can not stand offside waiting to intercept or block a pass.
iii Offiside is penalised by awarding a free pass to the non-offending team.
5. Kicking
i There will be no kicking allowed and no conversions.
6. Restarts -
i - The game will be started by a free standing pass from the centre field (person passing the ball must be stationary).
ii For a knock-on or forward pass the non-offending team will be awarded a free pass from the position of the offence.
iii If the ball or player goes into touch the non-offending team will be awarded a free pass, in line with the position the touch line was crossed.
iv If a penalty is awarded the non-offending team are awarded a free pass from the position where the offence took place (penalties can also be awarded for unsporting play).
v For every free pass the defending team must be 5m back from the ball carrier. If a defending team is taking too long to get back on-side (time wasting), the attacking team can be awarded by moving the free pass position up the pitch 5m.
7. Scoring
i - The ball must be placed over the opposing teams try line with two hands on the ball and two feet in contact with the floor.
ii - Diving over the line is not permitted, players must stay on their feet (not fall over) and apply downward pressure with TWO hands on the ball, a penalty will be awarded to the non-offending team five metres from the try line.
8. Substitutions -
Any amount of roll on substitutions can be made, as long as 3 girls are present on the side (injury dependant).
9. Pitch Size -
The pitch will be 30m x 40m (where possible!) which is within the RFU recommended guidelines.
10. Teams -
Teams will consist of eight players, three being girls. Three girls have to be present on the side at all times.
